Know How To Glow: You are what you eat

Know How To Glow: You are what you eat

Believe it or not, there is a deep correlation between the food we eat and the way our skin reacts to it.  Of course, hormones, sleep levels, and environment all play a role in the makeup of our skin.  Food, however, also contributes to not only a healthy body, but also healthy skin.  As expected, a balanced diet is key to counterattacking acne and other skin problems.

Our list below features 10 foods that will make your skin feel better than ever:

1. Water

It's true! The more hydrated the body, the more hydrated the skin.  Water keeps the skin looking glowing and healthy. Hydration flushes out bad toxins in the skin and helps skin regeneration.

2. Strawberries

Vitamin C is essential to maintaining healthy skin, and without it, there is an increasingly potential risk of skin disease, such as scurvy.  Luckily, strawberries are a super-antioxidant and are rich in vitamin C. Strawberries help to produce collagen that will strengthen the capillaries that supply the skin.

3. Pumpkin

Pumpkin contains potassium, and Vitamins A and E, which are especially essential in battling sun damage.  Pumpkin is also made up of 92% water, and its seeds are a good source of zinc.

4. Carrots

Due to its richness in vitamin A, carrots are known as the food that improves vision.  What’s less known is vitamin A’s beneficial impact on the skin, as it can prevent the overproduction of clogged pores and skin cancer.  Eating carrots will help keep your skin clean while reducing the chance of skin diseases.

5. Avocados

Avocados have both lutein and beta carotene, both of which soften the skin and help to keep it looking young and supple.  If you’re looking for a natural way to fight aging skin and wrinkles, avocados are a great choice!

6. Chia seeds

Chia seeds are rich in essential omega 3 fatty acids, which help erase blemishes and keep the skin soft and hydrated.  Try putting chia seeds in a smoothie, yogurt, or cereal.  If you’re looking to get omega 3 fatty acids elsewhere, fishes such as tuna and salmon, along with other nuts, have high amounts of the fat.

7. Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant. It helps to eliminate skin-aging free radicals from ultraviolet exposure. Lycopene is made easier for the body to absorb when tomatoes are cooked or processed, so get cooking!

8. Watermelon

Not only is watermelon a great source of hydration (roughly 92 percent water), but the super fruit also contains lycopene, lots of vitamins A and C, and even potassium.

9. Spinach

Spinach contains vitamin K, which can help in the prevention of varicose veins over time.  Vitamin K also keeps your skin clear, lessens skin inflammation and can diminish dark circles under your eyes. Spinach also contains a high amount of Vitamin A.

10. Sesame seeds

This old condiment contains zinc, which can reduce overproduction of oil that leads to clogged pores.  There are several health benefits to these tiny seeds, including improved bone health and lowering blood pressure.
